What is San Francisco Rent Control?
The San Francisco Residential Rent Stabilization and Arbitration Ordinance was enacted June 13, 1979. Properties built before the date the ordinance was enacted fall under rent and eviction controls. There is a maximum amount that rents can be raised for a tenant. The allowable increase in rent is set by the City of San Francisco. In addition there are strict rules regarding no-fault evictions of tenants. A tenant cannot simply be asked to leave their unit. The Annual Allowable Rent Increase 3/1/15 - 2/29/16 is 1.9%.
